Puffin Sunset by Josh Jaggard

Puffins - Fratercula arctica

Puffins are one of the most iconic seabirds in the UK, but one that is currently in serious decline in Shetland. Hermaness Reserve has seen a drop from 25,000 pairs to just 2,500 in the last ten years. This is mainly due to lack of food in the local area, so the puffins are having to travel further afield to find a meal - and bringing back food with less nutritional value than the sand eel. That said, it is still a fantastic place to see these incredible birds and my favourite place to photograph them. The backdrop is stunning, the evening light is beautiful and there are still plenty of puffins to photograph.
